Episode Five

Over at Diamondhead, summer was getting under way. Nagisa #2 was opened outside and Hiromi and Kaito were as busy as ever. Hiromi gets a phone call from Fujiko. All Fujiko could say was sorry and nothing more. She hung up after saying just that. Hiromi didn't take this statement seriously.

That night, Haruko brought in a guest who got drunk and collapsed. That guest turned out to be Shimizu(Yamamoto Taro), who was a friend of Hiromi's.

When Shimizu woke up, he came down to the first floor for dinner. When anyone called Shimizu by his name, he would always say that his name was not Shimizu but "The Shimizu who competed in the Olympics because Sakurai(Hiromi) got injured". Makoto and Kaito didn't like what Shimizu was saying about Hiromi and that he couldn't help it because he got injured. But they didn't know the truth yet.

Outside, Kaito had a talk with Shimizu while he was taking a bath. Shimizu told Kaito that Hiromi was a good guy and a good swimmer, much better than he was.

Makoto's friend, Yuko, heard this, and since she is a big mouth, she told everyone in the town about this. Hiromi became sort of a hero after this. And the next night, Shimizu told Hiromi that he came to compete with Hiromi. Hiromi thought it was joke but Shimizu was serious. Yuko heard this also and told everyone in the town. So when Hiromi went out for groceries or whatever, he would be greeted by people he didn't know and would be saying stuff like "Good luck. I placed by bets on you", but he didn't know what they were talking about. He had no intention to compete with Shimizu.

Makoto and Kaito didn't like Shimizu's complaints about Hiromi but after hearing Shimizu saying that swimming was his dream, they began to think differently about him. In a way, Kaito knew how Shimizu must have felt.

The day of the competition between Shimizu and Hiromi came. But Hiromi went about his daily routine as usual. Kaito asked Hiromi why he didn't want to compete with Shimizu. Then Hiromi told them the truth, that he injured himself on purpose because he couldn't stand the pressure of competing for Japan. But then Kaito told Hiromi that he felt sad for Shimizu, because he trained just for this day. Masaru tells Hiromi to go and get things back to zero again. At the end, Masaru said "Just go back to being the idiot you are." Then Hiromi went back to his room and put on his swimming pants.

He went to the pool where the competition was to be held and everyone greeted him. When the race began, it looked as if Hiromi was going to win, and it was a close finish, but he lost.

Shimizu was happy and said to Hiromi, "It's common sense that I win because I practiced for this day." Hiromi smiled and was happy for Shimizu. Shimizu also smiled.

After the race, Shimizu had to go home. When Makoto called him by the name "The Shimizu who had to compete in the Olympics because Sakurai got injured", Shimizu said, "That's over. Just call me Shimizu". His taxi went off and everyone waved to him.
